The Mother-In-Law – Sally Hepworth

The Mother-In-Law

I have no idea how Sally Hepworth does it, but I have never felt so much empathy or honestly emotions in general for a character so early in a book. Sally Hepworth did an amazing job building out the two main characters. I never wanted to put this one down and it killed me that I didn’t have the time to finish it in one day.

This one only gets 4 or 4.5 stars (I’ll decide after I write the last sentence of this review) because I didn’t think the ending was as strong as all the character development and writing early in the story. The stories of Diana and Lucy are so beautifully written and developed. The side characters though fell flat in comparison. This led to the ending and reveal leaving something to be desired.

Ok, I am going with 4.5 stars because I am still floored with how emotionally invested I was in Lucy and Diana. It should probably be 4 stars because the reveal should carry a good amount of weight in the review but I just can’t forget that I texted people early in the book about how invested I was.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
