The Bridesmaid – Cate Quinn

The book opens with Holly Stone, a forensic specialist, being called in to support an investigation into a bridesmaid who was murdered the night before Adrianna Kensington’s dress fitting. Adrianna Kensington is the heiress to an international business empire and is set to marry Mark Li, a tech entrepreneur.

Holly Stone quickly learns that the murdered bridesmaid is her ex boss, Simone Walters. The outlandishness quickly takes off from here with Mark Li inviting Holly to become a bridesmaid so she can go undercover and investigate what happened to not only Simone but to help solve the unsolved abduction of Adriana years before.

This book was absurdly unrealistic but the pacing kept me going and enjoying myself. I did note a few times throughout that I didn’t care for/about any character. Towards the end of the story a character gets referenced and I had a moment where I wasn’t 100% sure I remembered exactly what role that person played.

Shockingly though, after not feeling emotionally invested in this story at all, there was one thing at the end that got me emotional. I’m still floored after finishing it that I suddenly cared so deeply, although, it was for something that couldn’t have been more than a few pages.

If you caught me rating this right after I finished sobbing, this probably would have been 4 stars. Instead, it is 3.5 stars.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.
