Fake Skating – Lynn Painter

This was a classic Lynn Painter young adult romcom book. The best part of a YA romance like this is you know the tropes and yet you love them anyway.

The book opens with Dani moving back to the United States with her mother after her parents break up. This means moving to the town where she spent her summers growing up and having to come face to face with her childhood best friend Alec who she no longer speaks to.

It is a classic story of fake dating and like most young love, 90% of the issues could be solved with some basic communication. The characters are so charming that you love them despite their communication flaws. Lynn Painter actually does a good job of showing why the conversations don’t happen without it feeling forced.

This was the perfect cliche and predictable love story for when you need a break from everything. There were a few things I would have liked to know more about in the ending but overall, I have no complaints. This was easily 4 stars.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
