Daring Girls was a fantastic thriller that I couldn’t put down. Jessica, Norah, and Alicia find themselves at the heart of a mystery surrounding their childhood foster home, Wild Meadows. This is far from a unique premise and yet it was captivating.
I thought the author did an incredible job introducing the three sisters at the start of this book. Sometimes that many POVs can be confusing but the author did an incredible job developing the characters right off the bat. The personalities were distinct and the narrative was developed in a way that showed how those three personalities worked together to create their bond. The characters were flawed but I still never stopped rooting for them.
The ending was fairly predictable with only one detail I didn’t quite expect. Despite seeing where it was going, I loved every minute of the journey. Many people reference the child abuse as a reason they did not enjoy this one but I don’t mind those darker plot points. I will say it was refreshing to see siblings come together in the face of the abuse. In my recent reads, it is far more common for the abuse to lead to characters being pitted against each other, damaging the relationship, or a future to a loss of contact.
I’ve gone back and forth on the scoring of this one and I think I am going to give it a 5 ⭐ star review. It feels like a 4.75 but I can’t seem to name a reason for that .25 deduction. So take the 5 stars with a grain a salt.
